An amazing fact that I discovered while reading about lucknow is, that the Lakhnavi cuisine has basically originated from Persian cooks introduced by the Nawabs of Awadh in their royal kitchens.

Gulabi chai – This royal chai tastes nothing like the normal chai, it is famous in Kashmir as ‘noon chai’ and in Lucknow as ‘gulabi chai’. Made of flavors of kesar, elaichi, kewra, it gets its color from sodium bicarbonate which also gives it the taste. This hot unique beverage is served with imarthi or jalebi. You will get the best gulabi chai at Nakhas market. The secret tip is to visit at night and you’ll enjoy the market view along with your chai!

Nimish – Also called Makhan malai, it is a rich creamy dessert which is a part of the Awadhi cuisine in Lucknow. This is the cuisine of Nawabs which makes it rich in the variety and taste. The foggy winter mornings are the times to delish this dessert. The special thing about nimish is that it’s available in the Lucknow local Chowk area. It light and creamy texture just dissolves in your mouth.

Shahi tukda – Lakhnavi Shahi Tukda is a delight to have for dessert lovers. This mouth watering sweet dish is a bread pudding dessert of fried bread slices soaked in hot milk with saffron and cardamom. For the most authentic taste of this royal dish, one must try it at Dastarkhwan, Tunday Kebabi and Zaika. It is served with chilled saffron flavored thickened milk, topped with toasted nuts and you are ready to eat!

Phirni – Though you might have heard its name quite a few times but the sweet dish is nothing you can already imagine unless you actually taste it. The royal dessert is served at the famous restaurant Crazy Balls in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. Phirni is made with special lakhnavi refinements like using aged rice called ‘Rangooni’. The restaurant Crazy Balls serves not just phirni but another exotic sweet dish, rabri bharwa gulab jamun which is again an integral part of the royal Awadhi cuisine.

Sheermals – Also called shirmal, this is traditional flat bread made in Bangladesh, Iran, Awadh, Lucknow and Hyderabad. It is not exactly a dessert but this sweet naan delicacy is baked in tandoor and looks like Danish bread once made. It is enjoyed in Lucknow with spicy curries like Lucknow kebab or nihari.

Khoya Ladoo – You must be wondering what a common ladoo is doing in this list of specials. The reason is purely patriotic! This khoya ladoo is available at Haji sweet shop in Lucknow, started almost fifty years back and it is still the same! It is like the Chandni Chowk of Delhi. They sell the ladoos at a surprising price of 1 rupee! The shop is full with queues and provides other traditional sweets as well.

On top of my list are the dishes curated from the international line of main course menu. Prawns and veggies in oyster sauce. These are extremely fanciful and the taste is worthy. Prawn is a very popular seafood and is widely eaten in India. Here they make it tangy and spicy and the boneless softness makes it just amazing. The oyster sauce tastes like it is made in heaven! The veggies are stir fried and it makes for a perfect main course dish.

Murg Malai Tikka

Just the name leaves the mouth watering. They serve it with a beautiful garnishing and dip. It is creamy and the mushrooms add to the exotic flavor.

Paneer Moksha

This one is especially for the paneer lovers. The recipe is quite simple but what makes it exquisite is the crispness of every paneer bite you get to savor and the spices are especially a blend of Lucknow’s homemade version.

Yakhni Shorba Soup

What is Lucknow without mutton! One serving of this lavish appetizer is big enough for two people. It is the most famous mutton soup, also generally known as Kashmiri gosht and is made with bone-in-shank of lamb, curry spices and yogurt.

The structure of membership is divided into executive and yearly plans.

Structure:

The executive membership costs Rs. 1,25,000.

Membership for 2 years is for Rs. 30,000 and for 4 years is Rs. 20,000.

We offer a discount of Rs. 5,000 on each for corporate and other club members.

There is a charge of 15% service tax on all the plans.

Food Memories: Why I chose Crazy Balls in Lucknow

Choosing a life partner might be the most complex decision of one’s life but choosing ‘where to eat’ is even more difficult a problem to solve. It’s not just the food that matters nowadays! We want diners to be more than perfect in every aspect, be it technology or other services! And especially when it’s a special occasion like your loved one’s birthday or your 25th wedding anniversary, you want a venue nothing less than the best and that which is the most talked about because duh! ‘Social life’!!

For a Lucknow localite it might get difficult to get newer options for dining-in. Think of the best meals you have had, don’t they remain your favorites forever? Crazy balls is quite big of a restaurant. It is perfect for grand celebrations. The cuisines served here are divided into international and Indian. Every dish that Lucknow is known for, is available at this one place. The tunday kebabs, mutton biryanis, veggies in oyster sauce, grilled prawns and smoothies are to die for! The menu is exclusively selected and cooked by trained master chefs who have been in the business for the past fifteen years. And on top of that, the owners themselves pay a visit on your table to ensure customer satisfaction irrespective of the size of the group of people.

Being a hardcore foodie it was really important for me to click pictures and post them while I was in Crazy Balls for dinner, but I had a weak internet connection. The managers did not fail to impress with their access to technology. They offer a free WiFi connection, a free parking space for more than 200 vehicles! And the reservations are extremely easy to make. The bill, not to mention is cheap even for two people.

If you are curious about the interiors, it looks like a classic diner with a brown and white colored theme, having glass walls on the sides and a lot of greenery which gives a fresh feeling. Since they also have a banquet for bigger gatherings, they are always full.
